As the second most popular search engine, most online marketers who previously focused on ranking on Google only have begun taking notice of Bing’s traffic. One issue they are facing however is they are not able to rank highly on Bing as they do on Google. This makes them conclude that it is difficult to rank on Bing.
Ranking on Bing is not difficult especially to webmasters and SEO experts who understand how Bing search engine works. It’s important to understand that Bing and Google have different ranking factors and that’s why some sites which rank highly on Google, find it difficult to rank in Bing. Some of the reasons that may lead one to believe ranking in Bing is hard include;
Backlinks
Unlike Google which follows all types of links regardless of their source, Bing will follow links to find and crawl new content but only places value on editorial links. Editorial links are links found within the content (articles) in the website.
Links in sidebars, header, and footer of any other location do not determine website ranking in Bing search results unlike in Google where they are a ranking factor.
Domain name
Bings seems to prefer older and more mature domains as it ranks them higher than new domains. If you want to rank higher in Bing, it is advisable to buy an already existing domain. In addition, Bing places more weight on exact match domain names than Google. This means that you have to include your main keyword in the domain name to be able to rank higher in Bing.
Content
Recent updates have made Google to rank websites whose content is more relevant higher in SERP. Google places more emphasis on quality rather than quantity. This is completely opposite in Bing as it favors sites with more content and does not rank pages with thin content regardless of the number of links. Blog type websites usually do well in Bing as they have more content.
Title Tags and Anchor Text
To rank higher in Bing, ensure all your pages have title tags which contain important keywords. Additionally, ensure to use exact keyword phrases on the anchor text to improve ranking. This is unlike Google which places little emphasis on anchor texts and title tags
Is it hard to rank on Bing? Not at all if you optimize your website with knowledge of Bing’s ranking factors.
